Actually most computer controlled countries have that or a higher defense. Destroying anything would indeed leave you very weak.
I know. I just thought it was funny that I could have such a high index and be unable to reduce my arms.

Spassky ..Your DEF index (not the def force index) has to be above 100 before you can destroy def weapons..Otherwise you have to sell them or transfer them out(if you have another country)

Hmm. I destroyed defensive arms with lower indices than that. Of course, it was on KB a few rl months ago. And yes, Sal, it is a weird place--that jump to #4 bumped me down from 10 to 11.
I hoped to be in the top 10 when I got reset, but it looks like #11 will have to suffice. P.S.

Thanks, Eskon, for the info. Of course, it's impossible to transfer my weapons to Nimzovich when this country's debt is so high. I don't think I'll be able to sell them, either, in the time I have before the dereg. According to the message, it's zero days before this country is deregged. That means you probably won't be hearing from Spassky for a little while.
