Saturday, September 06, 2003 - 10:39 pm Some of you might have noticed I haven't logged in for a long time. this is because I have lost interest in this game, I'll go into details later in this post. I want to thank some peeps right now. Eskon: Thank you for being active and a voice of destruction in the world. your one of the few peeps I really enjoyed talking to. your a great warrior and a good friend. its been fun. Thundercats: you guys are good. we went from the bottom of the ranking pool to the top of the ladder. it couldn't have happened without all of you, I thank you from the bottom of my heart. Avalon, Abyss, and all your other names: your an inspiration to all the warrior players and a master of war. I couldn't have gotten to were I'm at without your presents in the world and your advice (the bible and other shit). 12 Monkeyes: well what can I say to all of you? I had hoped that this idea would keep me interested in the game, but allas, it could not. I'll be sending my account info to the fed so that one of you could put my empire to work of the cause. thank you. to everyone else: thanks for playing and making the game less of a bore. to bad the game developers couldn't understand what it takes to make an interactive game interactive. ok, thats all the thanks and stuff. now I'll get into why I'm leaving. like I said b4, the game has lost that loving feeling...you know, the feeling you get when you play the game. this feeling has faded do to several reasons: 1: the game lacks interaction. in all my months/years of playing I have never felt like I was playing with other ppl. it's more like I'm playing against the computer and the other players are just ppl to talk to while playing against the comp. that's not interaction, that's just talk. if the game masters would just loosen the restrictions on player and federation trading, and spending limits the game would blossom into a very competitive trading environment. there should not be any such thing as a war range. weapons should have ranges, that I agree with, but not to the point were you can't fight anyone. an army is too difficult to build for me to march all over the world trying to get in war range of some bloke that has done nothing but build defence for the 10 game years it took me to get in range of him. 3: W3 needs to abandon this "realistic game" concept they have been clinging onto since the game's introduction. there are any number of computer games I can buy that have tons better realism in war and economy gamming that also offer player interaction. W3's vision of a realistic game is not very realistic unless they were aimimg for a WW2 kind of world. in todays world fighter plans and bombers have unlimited range with inflight refueling, Nukes can strick anywere in the world, weapons of war like tanks use FUEL...and lots of it. these very real aspects of war cannot be found in SC. 4: the teaching mode of the game is almost impossible without repeating your self a billion times. sure you could just post your strategy on the BB but then everyone can read it and use your tactitcs against you and your fed. the ingame messege system cannot, and will never, be enough to keep fed members "active" and aware of what's happening. using off-sight messege boards only work if all the members go to that sight. sorry to say that very few players acually put that kind of effort into the game. chat systems are a waist of time IMO. far too often have I sat in a chatroom waiting for someone to actually say anything, and when they do it has very little to do with SC. In-game messege boards are severly needed to inspire game community growth and interaction. I can give one example of an online game that has this consept in play, www.playteq.com uses ingame messege boards on thier team server and I have to say that the learing curve in that game far exceeds SC. in just one game cycle (one month) a newb player can learn and practic everything he needs to know to become a pro and the leaders and teachers only have to ANSWER questions. this saves them all the time of repeating themselves to every new player, everything is posted on the messege board once for all members to read. 5: sight layout and instructions are incomplete and confusing. there is just too much clutter, nuff said? 6: W3 does the best they can, but unfortunatly it isn't enough. I can't blame them for all the wrongs in the game cuz I know they are under budgeted and over worked. but they need to do something to the game to make it better. number one thing they can do is stop fucking with the econ system, it's good enough the way it is. I probly missed a few things in my anti-game rant, but you get the idea. oh, one last thing: the difficulty to build a competitive army in this world is more time consuming than difficult. this make (atleast me) less willing to go to war, the prep time for war takes months atleast. ways of making a smaller force more competitive needs to be researched and implimented. weapon quality is one way that has been said, training is another, and combat readiness is yet another. ok, so I'm done playing and talking about SC. if your wondering what I might be doing in the future well I'm practicing my guitar alot more. playing other, more rewarding games, is somehting else that I'm doing. and watching TV is one of the last things that will be taking my time. I don't think I'll be missing the game very much, but I could come back in the future...maybe. try to have fun and take care. bye bye. Wartime, Cube, Wraith King, and Wraithland sighning off.

Sunday, September 07, 2003 - 12:00 am Thats it I've had enough of this shit! if W3C wants to drive players out of this game then I have the solution. I am officially declaring on every active player that i can reach befor I get reset. These stupid "improvements" will not stop me or deter me. If you are in my area i am giving you notice that I am comming and will not stop till i reset. This game is dying...I am here to finnish it off. The staff of this game has turned this game into a farce and I will not stand for it anymore. I came to this game to fight wars and that is what I will do...Fuck them!

Sunday, September 07, 2003 - 04:02 am Humm, I would join in this bashing of SC, if i cared a sinch about this game. The game has also drove my last nerve. I dont know about you guys, but i sure as hell dont play for the economy aspect of the game. I play to wage war, that's all, what else is there? clicking upgrades, raising salaries? There are so many things that SC staff is doing, to prevent players from building an army. Its BS, BS I TELLE YOU. I think alot of us will miss the players leaving. The game wont be the same if everyone up and leaves. (i think that is what SC wants. mayb they have a hidden agenda.) What ever, im done. If nothing by the time my GC expires, the I'll just F***G quit. PS: you'll be missed CUBE.

Sunday, September 07, 2003 - 09:54 am You have been one of the best friends in this game wc ! Bcause of you leaving now i might also lose interest in this game and i might also leave . I don't think there is a person that wont miss you ... well except ppl that you have conquered ... but anyway ... You and eskon have thought me the most important parts of this game and how to play it ... for that i remain always gratefull !

Monday, September 08, 2003 - 02:22 pm i agree with Imp. col., this is after all a war world, and if i wanted to play for the economy side of things, then i'ld be in KB or WG!I too am gonna go to GR, not with this country, but my gift;) and if improvements aren't made then i too will be leavin (not that anyone cares of course!)I think W3 should seriously consider things like weapons upgrades and war ranges for individual weapons

Tuesday, September 09, 2003 - 02:51 am evryone who quits due to lack of war shoudl note why, both on the BB and in an email to w3c (i know it might be hard to muster the willpower to do it...) The only way the limits will ever be removed is if enougb people press for it. Otherwise, w3c will think everyone likes a pure 'economy' game. Those of yuou who are near the edge....be sure to move at least one (strong!) country to GR and delcare a war EVERYONE needs to see and understand THOROUGHLY why and how war is impossible. Cheers, WC; wehave already exchanged mutual contact info, so maybe well speak again

Friday, September 12, 2003 - 12:44 am Cube, See ya! Thanks for spurring me to build my millitary while you were in my neighborhood. I didn't pay close enough attention to your advise on ecconomy. Any advise before leaving? A better ecconomy could help me build a better war machine, and I'll be reset soon. HELP! Happy trails friend! AF

Friday, September 12, 2003 - 01:51 am soft cocks ... as opposed to roadkill. I still can't see how anyone can think this is a game of economics. Worker relations isn't a factor, except for the unreasonable fact that paying more and more and more and more (thus putting up more in the expense column) universally makes a corporation more profitable. The "Quality Upgrade" system is unreasonable-- no allowance is made for a corporation to make its money by making lots of cheap products instead of fewer amounts of higher quality products. In a real economy, both high and low quality products have their place. Consider food-- McDonald's vs. Fine Restaurant-- Ground Beef vs. Prime Rib. The "quality" of the production process, as well, is not usually "invested in" with "upgrades." A company chooses a production process and hires its workers based on the machinery they can get and the quality and quantity they wish to produce. Yes, if this were an economics game, production facilities would have more than just one building that costs the same amount (barring the useless, in this case, quality statistic) for everyone. It would have to buy different kinds of machinery. It would have a variable workforce that doesn't simply stop at "100%". Quality products should cost more, but you shouldn't be able to produce as many of them. Quality in this game is a must, in the real world it is a choice, and often not a successful business practice. A way to make quality work, and relatively simply, would be to have players set a quality when building the corporation and need to buy an additional production plant (or some sort of "upgrade") if they wish to change their production process quality-- but they could change it quickly and without having to go from 100 to 120 by in 3 step increments. The quality would be a determinant not only of the value of the product but of the amount that can be produced. A quality/quantity ratio would need to be figured out for each product. Demand for products by different populations could be a function of a histogram of the income of each person. (This way, lower quality beef wouldn't directly compete with prime rib, as it doesn't in the real world.) Instead of a nation buying products and services for its people, (and people getting sorta angry when the government doesn't come through for them) the population as a whole could pay for what they need and in what quantity based on their various incomes. Local economies, in this game, are ignored. Shipping costs are ignored. Tariffs are a non-issue. If we want to build on my idea for quality, the population of a country can deterimine what it will pay for certain products again from a histogram of the income. When the population of a nation is rich, (and especially if its "poor" and "middle-class" people are wealthier than in other nations) it would demand more of everything. It would pay more for it, too. Raising salaries and lowering unemployment would improve the demand of your country. But why would this be beneficial? Tariffs, of course, and the simple fact that a corporation in that country can make a better profit because those specific tariffs won't apply to them. When an entity buys something, the tariffs that apply to the buyer could be deducted from the selling price to determine whether a corporation will actually sell. So then we have a choice: Protectionist vs. Free trade? This would be a place where the common markets on GR would be extremely useful. (Perhaps common markets could have the option to reduce tariffs amongst themselves.) The possibilities are exciting: build a completely self-sufficient nation that perpetuates itself by paying its workers alot and maintaining high tariffs. A free-trade nation that makes and exports alot of goods and imports little because it pays its workers next to nothing. (How workers are paid could also effect population growth, of course.) A free-trade nation that makes and exports alot of goods and imports alot of goods (with low tariffs) and pays its workers adequately, like the United States. Anyway, one thing is clear: quality, as it stands in this game, is broken. The only reason a country demands higher quality products is because it is lazy and clicks (or doesn't bother with) "Best Price" or because it is a C3. A nation derives no benefits from a higher quality consumer product. In conclusion, I think that in order for this game to go anywhere, the economy must actually become realistic *or* the war system has to make sense (without arbitrary limits, no matter the size of someone's war machine, on attacks, for instance) and be possible between two giants. *Both* would be awesome, but we at least need one. This game has alot of potential, and I don't think simply instituting limits or artificial fixes is going to solve its problems. We need to look at the system that is employed and make fundamental revisions; really think about how to make a model of real-world economics and war, before we go "perfecting" it with little "fixes" here and there. The ball is in your court, w3c.

Saturday, September 13, 2003 - 10:10 pm And to build further on that idea, since the absence of quality upgrades would make transportation index useless, transportation index could be part of the determining factors of how much a country will buy. And that would make sense: Easier movement of goods and services does make a market more apt to buy things.

Sunday, September 21, 2003 - 08:41 pm ___________"Hacking attack on Tibia's servers In the night from September 17 to September 18 one of our servers was hacked. Unfortunately the hacker got access to our central database. Therefore we had to shutdown our complete service. We are currently patching all servers and changing important parts of our data structure to ensure more security in the future. A complete reset to a state before the hack is inevitable. Of course we will do our best to be online again as soon as possible and provide a compensation to all premium players for their lost time. In addition, we started investigations to identify and prosecute the hacker. More details about this incident will be announced once our normal web server is available again. We hope that we can soon continue our normal work, the work on the next bigger game update you are already expecting for a long time! See you again in Tibia! Your CIP-Team"____________ Guess that rules out one game. ;)

Tuesday, September 30, 2003 - 02:52 am from Wartime Concubine: I was bored and came to Sc to have a look around the BB, I'm not back to play, just back to read and stuff. thank you for the list of games Knox, I have played many of those and looked through the Mpog site, sorry to say none of the games have what I'm looking for. thanks for the list though, I appresiate (fuck the spelling) it. SC is becomming a world of war even though the game rules do not permit realistic combat. this is due to the fact that most (or all) the vets are bored of the game...never ending games have that effect...even though resets are comming it will probly not be enough to change much as it is too little too late (IMO). SC's econ aspect has it's merits even though it is no were near what it COULD be...I'll explain: almost every game on the web has an economy based fully on a market price that is effected by supply and demand only. this is a fatal but simple system because one market may be more profitable than another due to the fact that no HUMAN player is producing that product. this makes the economies of those games "exciting" because there is a huge chance that the strat you chose will fail to produce the cash you need to be competitive. I've seen and experianced it a million times, one reset your strat is the best, the next it sucks. this keeps the game fresh and new each time you play it. SC's economy does not have this aspect and will never have it due to the fact that your quality rank is the only thing that matters. supply and demand has no meaning in this game if your quality is maxed (or even high, 50ish upgrades or so) you will sell regardless of what the supply is at. there is no strategy involved in the SC economy, how exciting is an economic model if you only have to build gasoline, construction, and production plants to make a huge profit? it's lame and boring because even though every single "good" player has 20+ of these corps, it has no effect on the other players. think about it, if everyone built only gasoline corps wouldn't there be a huge surplus of gas on the market driving the price down and destroying the profitability of the gasoline market? it would in real life, but not in SC the price drops for a little bit then comes back up. why? C3's. W3C has a program that directs the building of C3 corps based on the supply and demand of the world markets. this helps reduce large periods of demand (lack of a product) but also prevents economic collaps. Economic collaps is just what this game needs once in awhile, but nobody wants that (not even me...when I played) because of the value of the corp. hell it takes months to get a corperation to a good profit margine and the last thing you want is for that market to collaps. I say that ONLY because it takes such a long time to build an economy of desent stature in this game. only building one corp per month, upgrade only 3..er 2 upgrades per 2 months, raise salaries only 3% per month, blah, blah, blah...it takes to freak'n long to build up a single corp, let alone a fleet of corps! point I'm trying to make is the game has no economic challenge, only economic patients. and now for something completly differant: errr.. look im sorry your quitting but some of us love this game or at least like playing it till there other game is back up and running. so why mess up the fun if any of other players by decclaring war on them? its just a game if ye not like it then dont play. i love wars games, this ones ok to me.SO DONT SCREW ME OVER BECAUSE YOUR POOR FRIEND IS QUITTING. Knox look, eskon isn't attacking everyone because I quite, he's doing that cuz that's what he does, he's a warmonger...and a damn good one. Screwing you over is fun. I see no problem with it. Screw you. Infidelia lol u woulnd say that if ye where in any of us new players possitions. Knox I assume you've been playing for less than a month or so and you have no clue about what to do. this is FAR to common in this game and the reason for this is the lack of a good instruction guide. W3C (the game developers) have been working on this alittle but are far from having a good guide complete. they have further hampered the learning curve by not taking that extra step and giving the players a "good" way of communicating. I've mentioned a private BB for feds several times and even e-mail the bastards about it, but alas, they don't listen.... but back to the point, I have started over in this game more than anyone here, believe me when I say it's not that hard to build a desent empire if you know what your doing...the trouble is newbs don't know what they're doing and vets can't really help them without telling them step by bloody step. YOU have to go out and search for help in this game. TNN is a good place to start. that's all.

Tuesday, September 30, 2003 - 06:16 am Nice to see your name in here again WC. (if only for a moment) when WC says YOU have to go out and search for help in this game that is the truth!I have learned more from reading old posts than from asking questions. On these boards, almost every question has been asked many times and answered even more.Take the time to reserch the game and you will have a much easier time playing (and understanding) it. TNN has some very helpful stuff and there is also a chatroom.(for those of you that have IRC it's #simcountry) For anyone to rely on the documentation is foolish. The documentation does have some usefull information in it (and it should be read by everyone) but falls far short of explaining how to really play the game.( It's more of an overview ) Also reading the old posts will give you some of the history of the game (there is alot)and with the resets here, and the empires disapearing, The only original part of the game remaining, will be this board. So read up before W3C decides that the board needs to be reset too, cuz if that happens....your all screwed!( cuz I don't have the patience or the will power to answer every question, and I'm sure most of the other "experienced" players feel about the same)
